2004 ASC 19th Technical Conference Recap – Atlanta, GA

The ASC/ASTM-D30 Joint 19th Annual Technical Conference was held from October 17–20, 2004, at the Hilton Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia, hosted by the Georgia Institute of Technology. The event was co-organized by the American Society for Composites and ASTM Committee D30.

The conference was chaired by Prof. Erian Armanios (Georgia Tech) and co-chaired by Dr. James Reeder (NASA Langley Research Center). With 134 papers presented, the technical program featured five parallel sessions and highlighted developments in both fundamental and applied aspects of composite materials research.

Plenary and Featured Lectures

  • Prof. Abdul-Hamid Zureick (Georgia Tech) – Recent Advancement in Composites for Infrastructure
  • Dr. C. T. Sun (Purdue University) – ASTM-D30 Wayne Stinchcomb Lecture: Issues of Size in Composites

Student Poster Competition

The conference featured twelve student posters, with significant participation from Georgia Tech. Research topics focused heavily on carbon nanotube and nanocomposite materials for structural and energy applications, along with studies in durability, thermal conductivity, and manufacturing processes.
