By Navid Zobeiry, Communications Editor, American Society for Composites, Last updated: May 9, 2025
The 28th Annual Technical Conference of the American Society for Composites (ASC) was held from September 8–11, 2013, at the Nittany Lion Inn on the campus of The Pennsylvania State University in University Park, Pennsylvania. The event was chaired by Prof. Charles E. Bakis (Penn State) and aimed to foster communication in the composite materials community, advance interdisciplinary research, and accelerate the application of composites in emerging technologies.
The conference highlighted the theme of Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME), reflecting growing interest in modeling-based design and optimization for composite materials and structures. The program featured 134 technical papers across a diverse range of topics including active composites, durability, impact behavior, nanocomposites, textiles, structural health monitoring, and more. Researchers from 11 countries contributed to the technical sessions, emphasizing the international reach and academic quality of the event.
