In Memoriam: Professor Jack R. Vinson (1929–2025)
The American Society for Composites is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Professor Jack R. Vinson — a pioneering scholar, educator, and visionary leader in the field of composite and sandwich structures. A Fellow of ASC and President from 1998 to 1999, Professor Vinson’s contributions have profoundly shaped our community and the broader discipline of composite mechanics.
Over his long and influential career, he authored foundational textbooks and hundreds of journal papers on composite and sandwich structural mechanics. He became the first Director of the University of Delaware’s Center for Composite Materials (CCM) in 1974.
We extend our sincere condolences to his family, colleagues, and former students. His intellectual legacy continues to guide the generations of engineers and scientists engaged in composites.
